Local Student Develops Indie Game Inspired by Millfield

MILLFIELD COUNTY — A Millfield High School student is developing an independent video game inspired by the town and its surrounding areas. Nolan Richards, a senior at Millfield High, said the project began earlier this year as a small personal experiment before gradually expanding into a larger concept.

Richards described the game as a narrative-driven experience centered around a fictional version of a quiet town. According to Richards, many of the environments and locations in the project draw loosely from familiar parts of Millfield.

“I’ve always thought this town had a certain feeling to it,” Richards said. “It’s calm, but there’s also something hard to explain. I wanted to try capturing that in a game.”

Richards said he has been working on the project outside of school, building environments and writing dialogue based on imagined versions of local places. The game is still in early development and does not yet have a release date.

Some classmates who have seen early versions described the project as atmospheric and slow-paced. Richards noted that the goal is to create something reflective rather than action-focused.

The working title for the project is Palimpsest. Richards said the name reflects the idea of layers and hidden details, which he hopes players will uncover gradually while exploring the game’s world.

“I don’t want to spell everything out,” Richards said. “It’s more about noticing small things and piecing them together.”

Richards said he plans to continue development after graduation. Early information about the project has been made available online, where users can wishlist the game on Steam while development continues.
